Description: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on the ‘overwhelmingly positive’ effects of AI Fareed Zakaria July 13, 2025. CNN On GPS "Building Cognitive Skills Through Strategic Questioning" “I'm using AI literally every single day. And I think my cognitive skills are actually advancing. And the reason for that is because I'm not asking it to think for me. I'm asking it to teach me things that I don't know or help me solve problems that I otherwise wouldn't be able to solve reasonably. So that's important to say, don't use it as a crutch for things you can do. Use it for things you can do. I'm not exactly sure what people are using it for, but that would cause you to know, have to think, but you have to think in order, for example, the idea of prompting an AI, the idea of asking questions. For example, you're spending most of your time today asking me questions. In order to ask good questions, it's a highly cognitive skill. And as a CEO, I spend most of my time asking questions. And 90% of my instructions are actually conflated with questions. It is veiled within questions. And when I'm interacting with AI, it's a questioning system. You're asking questions. And so I think that in order to formulate good questions, you have to be thinking, you have to be analytical, you have to be reasoning yourself. In order to, when you receive an answer from an AI, I wouldn't just receive it. Usually what I do is I say, are you sure this is the best answer you can provide? I take the answer from one AI, I give it to the other AI, I ask them to critique itself. You know, this is no different than getting three opinions, three doctors' opinions. I do the same thing. I ask the same question of multiple AIs, and I ask them to compare each other's notes and then give me the best of all the answers. And so I think that the process of critiquing, criticizing the answers of your critical thinking enhances cognitive skills. And so all the people who were taking those tests, I would advise that they apply critical thinking.” Jensen Huang's Revolutionary Approach to AI: Building Cognitive Skills Through Strategic Questioning - Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, has shared compelling insights about how artificial intelligence can enhance rather than diminish human cognitive abilities. His approach, revealed in a July 2025 CNN interview with Fareed Zakaria, offers a transformative perspective on AI as a tool for intellectual growth rather than a cognitive crutch. The Core Philosophy: AI as Teacher, Not Replacement Huang's fundamental principle is clear: "Don't use it as a crutch for things you can do. Use it for things you can't do." This distinction forms the foundation of his AI strategy, which has allowed him to use AI "literally every single day" while experiencing advancing cognitive skills rather than declining ones. His approach challenges the common concern that AI might weaken human thinking capabilities. The Nvidia CEO emphasizes that AI interaction should be treated as a highly cognitive skill in itself. As he explains, "The idea of prompting an AI, the idea of asking questions" requires sophisticated thinking. This perspective transforms AI from a passive tool into an active partner in cognitive development. Huang's approach represents a paradigm shift in how we think about AI's role in human development. Rather than viewing AI as a threat to human intelligence, his method demonstrates how strategic AI use can actually enhance cognitive capabilities. This perspective is particularly relevant as AI becomes increasingly integrated into professional and educational environments. The success of Huang's approach suggests that the future will favor those who can effectively orchestrate AI systems rather than those who simply use them. This skill set requires developing sophisticated questioning abilities, critical thinking skills, and the capacity to synthesize information from multiple sources. Jensen Huang's revolutionary approach to AI demonstrates that the technology's impact on human cognition depends entirely on how we choose to use it. By treating AI as a collaborative partner in learning and thinking rather than a replacement for human intelligence, we can harness its power to enhance rather than diminish our cognitive capabilities. The key lies in maintaining active engagement, asking strategic questions, and never accepting AI responses without critical evaluation. As Huang's experience shows, when used properly, AI becomes not just a tool but a catalyst for intellectual growth and enhanced decision-making abilities.
